hero--Learning Through Play: Sorting and Sequencing – Aligning Fun and Learning

Did you know that the simple activity of sorting and sequencing supports children in developing mathematical and concentration skills? This activity is a great way for children to learn how to categorise objects, recognise colours, shapes and sizes, and support language development. An important cognitive skill, sorting helps a child notice similarities and differences in objects.

At Green Leaves, the children have been very engaged in sorting their pom poms and colourful objects. You could try this activity at home with existing objects around the house.

What you need:
3 different colour objects
A bowl to mix-up the objects
3 containers, or a bowl with 3 compartments to keep the sorted objects.

Method:
In the beginning, your child could sort the objects according to colours. The next challenge would be to sort them by size, or to place them in sequence.
